What does this part do?
The alarm remote transmitter is the primary key unit of the Saab 9-3. It includes buttons to lock / unlock the car, open the trunk and set of the alarm.
Does this part need to be programmed?
Yes. New alarm remote transmitters must be programmed to the car before they will work. The programming can be done by any Saab dealer, service center or third party service location that possesses a Tech II Scan Tool. This is a very popular automotive programming tool. We ship alarm remotes to all 50 states and have not yet encountered an area that cannot get units programmed.
Why do we always recommend buying two or more units?
We always recommend having a few spares of this key. The primary reason revolves around the programming of the new transmitters. In order to program new units, the car, new keys and at least one existing / working key must be present. If all existing units are lost, broken or damaged new keys will not be able to be programmed to the car without extensive (and expensive) ignition work.
